Bio
Captain Sean P. Meagher
Captain |Explorer | Expedition Leader | Yacht Broker | Maritime Instructor
Sean is the founder of Getting Started Marine, an onboard training service helping boat owners master electronics, docking, seamanship, and real-world boat handling. Delivered hands-on, in your environment, it's confidence at the helm—delivered.
Born and raised on Cape Cod, Sean Meagher was navigating solo by age 8 and earned his first captain’s ticket by 18—becoming the youngest captain in Hyline Cruises’ history. Since then, he’s commanded some of the world’s finest vessels across the most remote regions on Earth.
Sean is best known for three historic expeditions aboard M/Y Latitude, including two transits of the Northwest Passage (east–west in 2014 and west–east in 2015), making him only the 9th captain to complete the latter. These voyages earned him Boat International’s Voyager Award and a second nomination the following year for leading the only private yacht to ever circumnavigate Svalbard and reach within 400 miles of the North Pole. In 2017, he oversaw Latitude’s full refit in New Zealand as lead designer, earning a Best Refit nomination.
A lifelong conservationist and problem-solver, Sean has worked with Ocean Voyages Institute on ocean plastics and served as Marine and Military Advisor to Engineered Fluids, developers of cutting-edge, non-toxic immersion cooling systems.
Over the past decade, he has captained yachts from the Arctic to Southeast Asia, served as delivery captain for Oceanco’s 109m Bravo Eugenia, led the 60m Asteria from Mexico to Alaska, and acted as both listing and charter broker on M/Y Seanna. To date, he’s closed over $28M in listings and sales.
In recognition of his career at the intersection of exploration, leadership, and innovation, Sean was awarded the 2024 Monaco Yacht Club Explorer Award and named 2024 ACREW Captain of the Year in the Master Unlimited category.
