Bio

In 2000, I purchased my first ocean going sailboat, a C&C 38 racer/cruiser. Her successor, a Hunter 41DS, were moored in Falmouth Foreside for 15 years. Skippering these vessels in races hosted by Portland Yacht Club gave me the opportunity to learn the waters and currents of Casco Bay. I am confident navigating these waters even in the thickest fog. The intricacies of sailing between the Islands of Maine are interesting and rewarding. It is one of my favorite areas to sail.
For the past five years, I’ve had a dock on the Piscataqua River in Kittery, Maine. The currents are particularly challenging in this location. I am comfortable handling strong currents, heavy boat traffic, and nearly all wind conditions. In 2020 I purchased a Tayana 65 and sailed her home from Annapolis. Owning an older boat comes with all sorts of surprises! Fortunately, my background has given me the skills to identify and quickly mitigate system problems. I am experienced in all aspects of marine repair and preventative maintenance. I will ensure you will have the best experience possible. I have a strong desire to be on the water sailing. I love entertaining and sharing stories of my sailing adventures. I also enjoy playing ice hockey, my acoustic guitars, and downhill skiing.

Experience

I have sailed for more than 30 years, starting as crew aboard Marblehead race boats. Since then, I have competed in hundreds of races, including Newport to Bermuda and Marblehead to Halifax. As crew, I have delivered yachts to ports in Gibraltar, Spain, France, Mexico, Florida, and Annapolis. These experiences exposed me to a variety of weather conditions, mechanical adversity, and crew situations. I truly understand and embrace self-sufficiency. These experiences, as well as owning and operating a business, have molded me into the captain I am today.

Additional Information

I especially enjoy sailing with skippers that are new to a boat. It's a pleasure to show someone how to work all the equipment on an unfamiliar vessel. If you've recently purchased a sailboat and would like the first trip to be a treasured experience, please reach out to me.
